Wyke Farms’ 100% Green Project Wins at Four Awards in One Week

Success announced at the ‘European Business Awards’, ‘Grocer Gold Awards’, ‘Renewable Energy Association’ and ‘Made in the UK’

Bruton, Somerset, 21st June 2016 – Wyke Farms, the UK’s largest independent cheese makers and producers of renewable energy, celebrate this week after being named as winners at four prestigious awards. The Somerset based company has been recognized at each of the following awards for their ground breaking sustainability work and in particular the companies’ commitment to the 100% Green project.

  • 2015/16 European Business Awards sponsored by RSM: Wyke Farms achieved their success in The European Business Awards after a 16-month long journey in Europe’s largest and most prestigious business awards programme, which this year engaged with over 32,000 businesses and generated over 227,000 votes from across the globe in its public vote.
    • Renewable Energy Association (Sustainability Category): Recognized for Wyke Farms’ integrated green approach encompassing renewable energy, water recovery, green farming and transport
  • The Grocer Gold Awards (Green Initiative of the Year): Wykes Farms: ‘100% Green’ sustainability plan has dramatically reduced their carbon footprint and become the first national cheddar brand to be 100% self-sufficient using their own energy generated from solar and biogas.
  • The Made in the UK Awards (Green Manufacturer/Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year): Recognizing Wyke Farms’ 100% Green Strategy achievements on a national level after being put forward from the Made in the South West regional awards held in November 2015.  

Wyke Farms has been producing its award-winning cheddar for over a century and has grown to become one of the largest family-owned cheese makers in Britain selling over 13,000 tonnes annually.

Wyke Farms have 150 years of family farming experience. Wyke Farms’ cheese and butter is made with the milk from their cows grazing the lush pastures of the Mendip Hills in the centre of the Cheddar making region in Somerset.

The Wyke Farms products are available nationwide and can be found in Asda, Co-op, Makro, Sainsbury’s Tesco and Waitrose.
