Wyke Farms launch #CheeseForTea campaign to target mums, drive usage and increase frequency of sales

Somerset based Wyke Farms utilise leading Social Media position to express points of difference within the category

Bruton, Somerset, 14th March 2016 – Wyke Farms, one of the UK’s largest independent cheese producers and milk processors, today announce plans for their spring time integrated marketing campaign #CheeseForTea. The family-owned brand will be targeting mums primarily through Social Media, tasting events, in store sampling and recipe content seeded across multiple channels.

Learning from their Continental partners such as the French and the Greeks, Wyke Farms is using the campaign to explore the currently unmet potential of overall consumption being relatively low. This view was recently supported in Mintel[1] data showing that usage occasions for cheese in the UK are unadventurous and rarely goes beyond usage on toast or sandwiches.  The aim of the #CheeseForTea campaign is to inspire the meal provider of the household to use cheddar more frequently, while offering creative ways to include it as the central protein within the family meal. Wyke Farms’ sustainable approach to business means they aim for overall category growth rather than chipping away at competitor brands and deflating the market; category growth is likely through increased frequency of purchase and spend per trip as a result of their campaign.

In order that the Wyke Farms message is kept on point, the company will be using the campaign to communicate their unique points of difference. “Recent panel data has shown that our shoppers are buying into responsible farming, they care about what they feed their families, care about the environment and like to know where their food comes from. Our 100% Green strategy and Red Tractor accredited status shows consumers that they are buying a great quality product from a trusted source, and by giving them ideas of how to cook with our Cheddar and use it as an alternative protein source, it is hoped mum’s will remember our brand as one fit for the family,” said Rich Clothier, 3rd generation family member and Managing Director at Wyke Farms.

Wyke Farms has the second largest social media following in the category, and the best overall engagement rate (10% weekly average compared to industry 1%).  The campaign will reach over 150,000 people every week through Social Media. The brand will work with chefs and well-known bloggers to develop the campaign further throughout the summer.

Wyke Farms has been producing its award-winning cheddar for over a century and has grown to become one of the largest family-owned cheese makers in Britain selling over 13,000 tonnes annually.

Wyke Farms have 150 years of family farming experience. Wyke Farms’ cheese and butter is made with the milk from their cows grazing the lush pastures of the Mendip Hills in the centre of the Cheddar making region in Somerset.

The Wyke Farms products are available nationwide and can be found in Asda, Co-op, Makro, Sainsbury’s Tesco and Waitrose.
