Wyke Farms’ Vintage Cheddar achieves Which? Best Buy Award

‘Simply Gorgeous’ Vintage Farmhouse Cheddar noted as one of the ‘champions of the cheeseboard’

Somerset, UK – 12th May 2014: Wyke Farms, the UK’s largest independent cheese producer and milk processor, has achieved a ‘Best Buy’ award from esteemed consumer advice magazine Which? for its ‘Simply Gorgeous’ Vintage Farmhouse Cheddar. The award-winning Vintage Farmhouse Cheddar was also named in the magazine’s Top 5 Best Cheddars.

Wyke Farms ‘Simply Gorgeous’ Vintage Farmhouse Cheddar has a bold characterful taste and is made using Wyke Farm’s patriarch, Grandmother Ivy Clothier’s age-old recipe. To achieve this flavor, it is left to mature, undisturbed, for over 15 months. The testing panel praised its “hint of crunch and a good, fruity flavour” and after testing its aroma, taste and texture. Fifteen widely available premium vintage and extra mature cheddars were selected and tested by a panel of four judges in order to find the ‘champion of the cheeseboard’.

Wyke Farms will be sampling its ‘Simply Gorgeous’ Vintage Farmhouse Cheddar, along with the rest of its product range at a total of 19 national events across the country this summer. The general public will be invited into the Wyke Farms trailer to taste its award winning cheddar, enjoy product offers and learn about its family history and sustainability project.

Wyke Farms are sampling its farmhouse cheddar at The BBC Good Food Show, The Royal Bath & West Show, The Grand Designs Show and MasterChef Live among others. Product sampling includes Wyke Farms Simply Gorgeous Vintage Cheddar, Just Delicious Extra Mature Cheddar, Rich and Creamy Mature Cheddar, and also Superlight Half Fat and new Somerset Old Smokey.

Wyke Farms has been producing its award-winning cheddar for over a century and has grown to become the largest family-owned cheese maker in Britain selling over 14,000 tonnes annually. The company have achieved substantial growth year on year by staying true to the traditional values behind the brand and have become the fastest growing cheddar brand at a rate of 10% every year for the past five years.

Wyke Farms have 150 years of family farming experience. Wyke Farms’ cheese and butter is made with the milk from their cows grazing the lush pastures of the Mendip Hills in the centre of the Cheddar making region in Somerset.
