Wyke Farms highlights Provenance in New Advertising Campaign

New autumn ad campaign responds to shoppers’ demands for local and traceable brands

Somerset, UK – 9th October 2013: Wyke Farms, the UK’s largest independent cheese producer and milk processor, today announces its new autumn advertising campaign which highlights the brand’s unique differentiators; those of provenance, passion for the countryside and family farming in Somerset.

Latest Mintel figures show that an increasing number* of shoppers (increase of 23% December 2012 v. March 2013) are looking for brands that are local and can rebuild consumer trust lost during the horsemeat scandal. Wyke Farms’ campaign seeks to restore this confidence through its print ad campaign, which emphasizes its short supply chain; its cows are grazed locally on fields near to Wyke’s dairy farm in Bruton, Somerset. The print creative features a close-up image of a cow against a countryside background with a wicker basket of Wyke Farms cheddar.

Wyke Farms worked with design agency Tynan D’arcy to produce the new ad campaign, which will run from November through to December in popular female lifestyle publications including BBC Good Food, Good Housekeeping, Hello, Red and Women and Home, and will reach over 1,980,000 million ABC1 female shoppers. This £215k investment into mass media promotional activity demonstrates the company’s commitment to brand growth and further cements their position as the leading farmhouse cheddar brand.

Wyke Farms has been producing its award-winning cheddar for over a century and has grown to become the largest family-owned cheese maker in Britain selling over 14,000 tonnes annually. The company have achieved substantial growth year on year by staying true to the traditional values behind the brand and have become the fastest growing cheddar brand at a rate of 10% every year for the past five years.

Wyke Farms have 150 years of family farming experience. Wyke Farms’ cheese and butter is made with the milk from their cows grazing the lush pastures of the Mendip Hills in the centre of the Cheddar making region in Somerset.

The Wyke Farms products are available nationwide and can be found in Asda, Co-op, Makro, Sainsbury’s Tesco and Waitrose.
