Texas wine and spirits chain calls on UK’s largest independent farmhouse cheese producer for gourmet British deli imports

Austin, Texas – February 24, 2009 – Wyke Farms, the UK’s largest independent cheese producer and milk processor, today announced the availability of the company’s award-winning farmhouse cheddar and butter in Spec’s, the Houston-based spirits and grocery chain. Currently available throughout the Midwest and other retailers around the United States, Spec’s will be the first Texas-based chain to carry Wyke Farms’ imported gourmet British Farmhouse cheddar and butter products.

Wyke Farms is a family-owned and operated business in the heart of the Somerset cheddar-making region in England with a rich history dating back to 1902 when the family’s award-winning original recipe was created by grandmother Ivy Clothier. Today, over 100 years later, Wyke Farms remains loyal to the family’s heritage and approach to farming, which enables them the unique ability to produce a wide variety of traditional, real farmhouse cheddars that have made the company a household name across the UK and Europe.

“We officially announced Wyke Farms’ presence in the United States less than a year ago, so we’re still relatively new to U.S. soil and are therefore thrilled to expand our distribution into Texas,” said Richard Clothier, Managing Director and third-generation family member, Wyke Farms. “Spec’s has a unique history deeply rooted in family values very similar to our own, and we feel our farmhouse cheddar and butter will be well-served along side their impressive stock of other imported and domestic gourmet cheeses and deli products.”

Owned and operated by the same Houston family since 1962, Spec’s operates over 50 stores located throughout Houston, the surrounding areas and Beaumont, Texas. Wyke Farms’ farmhouse cheddar and butter products, including TNT Aged Cheddar, Village Oak Vintage 18 Month-Old Cheddar and Truly Scrumptious Farmhouse Butter, are available for purchase at various Spec’s locations across Texas. For a full listing of where to buy Wyke Farms farmhouse cheddar and butter in the United States, please email info@wykefarms.com.
