About Twenga

Bastien Duclaux and Cédric Anès created Twenga in 2006 after they realised that only a tiny fraction of today’s hundreds of thousands of online shops could be found through traditional search engines and directories. Consumers were missing out on great products and great deals and shops were missing out on customers. Twenga solves this problem.

Christmas Gift Wish List: No more scarves and ties and no sex please, we’re British!

London – November 10th 2009Twenga, the comprehensive shopping search engine, today reveal further results from its Annual Christmas Spending Survey showing that some of the more common gift items are a big no-no for the British population.  Over one third  (36%) admitted that they would not like to receive a scarf (for women) or tie (for men). The Brits remain the more conventional Nation compared with 51% of Europeans saying they would not like to receive a scarf nor a tie.

Staying at the top of the Christmas gift list are timeless classics such as books, perfumes, chocolates appliances and gift cards welcomed by both Brits as much as their European neighbours. Interestingly, 37% of Germans would rather not receive an electric appliance as a gift – compared with 18% of Britons.

However, this doesn’t mean that the British are ready to welcome more adventurous gifts as 45% of Brits say they would not like to receive a sex toy as a Christmas gift either.

And if you were wondering where the sexes stand on the subject: 60% of the women would refuse a sex toy compared to only 40% of the men interviewed.
