PLANTRONICS WINS IMPACT ON ORGANISATION AND WORKPLACE AWARD
London, UK – 11th October 2012 – Plantronics (NYSE: PLT) has been presented the ‘Impact on Organisation and Workplace’ award at the annual British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) Awards. Beating five other finalist organisations, including Channel 4 and the Cooperative, Plantronics celebrated its success with 1,300 other winners and guests at the black tie ceremony on Monday 8th October at the Grosvenor Hotel, London.
Plantronics won the award for its ‘Simply Smarter Office’ established at its UK headquarters in Royal Wootton Bassett, a project that involved consolidating all departments from three buildings into one. Working with independent workplace effectiveness strategists, Leesman, Plantronics developed this innovative office environment with a series of different working spaces – titled Communicate, Collaborate, Concentrate and Contemplate. The concept was based on Jeremy Myerson’s book New Demographics, New Workspaces and was designed to support a range of working styles and activities.
The redesign was largely undertaken to implement a truly effective flexible working environment. Within its Simply Smarter Office, Plantronics encourages employees to improve their work life balance by providing a consistent set of tools that enable them to work remotely from any location. This new way of working has also meant a proportion of employees do not have set desks in the new office to further encourage the initiative.
This flexible working strategy also enables Plantronics’ employees to take international conference calls from the comfort of their own homes rather than having to be in the office early in the morning or late at night, helping increase employee satisfaction and productivity.
“It’s a great honour for us to be recognised not only for our commitment to enabling smarter working for our staff, but also the efforts we’ve gone to in workplace design,” said George Coffin MBE, EMEA Facilities Manager. “Our aspiration was to create a more effective working environment in which staff were more productive.”
“Excellent turnaround of previously ordinary buildings into new space directly aligned to corporate culture,” said Lead Judge, Keith Shields at BIFM. “Real measures that show this to have worked and to be supporting creativity and staff well-being and productivity.”
